Volunteer Profile 3 - Mary Gregory
Mary is niece to founders Richard and Hasell Atwell. She
has been coming to the Museum all her life and is now responsible for the
Museum website and social media.
How did you first get involved with the museum?
I have visited Richard and Hasell Atwell at the Bungalow, Stockley Lane all my life – the Museum has been an integral part of that as long as I can remember; starting with just the small garage which now forms a wing of the main museum, and the excitement of adding the main building in 1989.
What sort of volunteer activities do you do?
I primarily work on the website as well as Facebook, Flickr and Twitter. Sadly living on the other side of the country means it is not possible to be physically at the Museum as often as I’d like but where possible I attend events, including helping out on the tombola at the annual show (see photo).
How much time do you commit?
My time commitment varies from week to week. Some weeks there is little input required; around big events it’s much more.
What do you most enjoy about volunteering at the museum?
It’s good to know that the family can continue to support the Museum which Rich and Hay devoted so much time to setting up. The work also makes a nice change from the day job!
Which is your favourite vehicle in the Museum?
My favourite car is the Austin Sheerline we had it as our wedding car, driven to the wedding by Richard, so it brings back happy memories.
Do you own a classic car?
No, my knowledge of cars old or new is very limited!
