Volunteer Profile 1 - Carenza Ellery
Carenza
has a love of classic vehicle and first got involved in The Museum following the
annual show in 2012. The amount of time she commits to the museum varies from
month to month with her contribution ranging from helping paint at museum
working parties to setting up at the annual show and representing the museum at
shows around the South West.
How did you first get involved with the museum?
I belong to 6X classic mini club. I had been meaning to go to the museum for years and finally made it when I went with the club for the show in July 2012.
I joined the friends on the day of the show as one of my passions is classic vehicles and their preservation. I have been volunteering since then.
What sort of volunteer activities do you do?
I have attended meetings, slopped some paint around, helped get the museum show ready and promoted the museum at various shows.
How much time do you commit?
This varies. I am still working and although part-time, a lot of my time is taken up getting my vehicles fixed!
What do you most enjoy about volunteering at the museum?
Working with other people who share my passion for classic vehicles; just looking at the gorgeous old things (the vehicles not the people!).
Which is your favourite vehicle in the Museum?
My favourite car is the big Riley followed closely by the Minis of course! I also like the bikes.
Which is your favourite classic car/vehicle?
Honda CBX550F1D, Honda 400-4, Minis
Do you own a classic car?
Yes and bikes. Let me introduce you to my family in order of acquisition:
Pegasus, Honda CBX550F1D, owned since 23.4.86 since new, love of my life, most handsome and beautiful bike in the world, full restoration 2006/9, red, white and black.
Little Min - Mini Neon, 1991 last 998cc limited edition Mini, owned by my mum, then by me when she died Nordick blue with pink lines.
Scruffy, Honda CBX550F2, 1985, now restored and renamed Celeris and married to Melanippe, Watsonian Squire sidecar, red, white and black.
Herby, Rover Mini Cabriolet, 1996 rare, British racing green, stage 3 kit.
Burlington Bertie, Austin Mini Clubman estate, 1975, restoration going on since 2006, orange with black trim, stage 1 kit, going to be my camper van – hoping to finish it during 2014
Euippe, 1985, Honda CBX550F1D, blue - yes another one well they are my ideal bike,
There's another CBX550 in the garden which I was given and has had bits taken for spares. I am also buying a Honda 400/4 (named Perseus), F2, maroon, 1977. Thanks to the vast amounts of money Herby and Little Min have gobbled up, the Clubman restoration is on hold for the winter and I am paying for the 400/4 in bits.
